We all know being hydrated during activity is important, but this Memorial Day Weekend don’t be the chump who forgets to hydrate while celebrating the fine folks who fought for America! Through cookouts, parades, beach trips, and all manner of family fun, Nathan has you covered with hydration solutions to make sure your urine stays a light straw or lemonade color (apple juice or darker means you’re dehydrated)!
Why is it so important to hydrate over the holiday? Well, aside from performance-related benefits, being adequately hydrated helps your body regulate its temperature (and in May, the temperature is beginning to rise), allows your heart to circulate your blood with less effort, improves your cognitive function and mood regulation (especially important for large family gatherings!), and helps your kidneys filter toxins from your blood (raise your hand if you might be putting some toxins in this holiday!). Overall, staying hydrated makes you feel better and makes your body function optimally. If all of this wasn’t enough convincing, in the event that you do head out for a run and you’re not adequately hydrated to start, you can reach dangerous levels of dehydration as you lose fluids to sweat.
Lucky for all of us, Nathan is here to help! Team Trail Racing Over Texas has explored the multi-functionality of many Nathan products, and will help demonstrate how they can be used:
Julie Koepke is known as a die-hard competitor, using sheer grit to get through the toughest trail races. Here, she and the girls use the VaporHowe packs for hands-free hydration during a cutthroat game of Connect Four.
Katie Graff channels her inner Ewok as she takes her favorite costume out for a jog on the Greenbelt in Austin, TX. All that fur makes things hot, so hydrating with the Speedshot Plus Insulated is a must when running dressed as your spirit animal.
Patrick Sweeney likes to spend his long weekends running barefoot along gorgeous Manhattan Beach, bringing with him the ExoDraw, which just so happens to have a perfect pocket for collecting lost shovels. Pat re-purposes these shovels into the awards for his Born to Run Beer Mile.
Jeff Miller is already engaged, but here he is demonstrating a technique that worked especially well for him last December for his proposal. The pill pocket in the VaporKrar vest works well for holding all manner of precious cargo, from salt tabs to diamond rings! Keep the vest on you for hydration, and stash the ring – she’ll never see it coming!
Cal Neff is our resident stroller running world record holder. NATHAN won’t be making hydration strollers anytime soon but Cal can easily stash a Fire and Ice 2 insulated bottle along with pacifiers, sunglasses, and snacks for his three little girls.
Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to catch up on yard work, or as Matt Zmolek likes to call it, “cross training”. Weed whacking, chopping wood, hauling brush, and mowing the lawn all work up a good sweat and the 24 oz FlexShot maximizes performance at these cross training sessions
From Team TROT and Team NATHAN, Happy Memorial Day. Stay safe and stay hydrated, America!
